Swans exit the FA Trophy at the first hurdle as visitors Margate take the win back to the Kent coast. It was not the Swans day as Greg Haydon saw red in the final minutes of the first half and as the decisions went against the home side Drax was sent to the stands.
Margate had arrived with ex-Swan Kane Haysman in the side following his signing and, true to form, Kane looked really lively. Elliott Buchanan was unlucky on a few occasions and thumped the ball against the post twice before being replaced by Jonothan Hippolyte. The ‘Gate’ looked strong throughout and goals from Jack Evans (29′) Chris Sessegnon (50′) and Jordan Chiedozie (pen 61′) sealed the day.
Drax’s boys will feel as though things certainly didn’t go their way from the moment Haydon received his first yellow card as the game became a little messy. Liam Driscoll in the Swans goal pulled off several good saves, one exceptional, to keep Margate at bay and Tyrell Miller-Rodney worked tirelessly for the cause.
Moving swiftly on … Swans will now face Enfield Town at Wheatsheaf Park on Tuesday evening as Enfield lost 2-0 ar Royston in the FA Trophy.
