Uxbridge FC 0 Swans 4 …

Swans played out their penultimate pre-season game at fellow Middlesex side Uxbridge FC ans returned with a confident 4-0 win against a side showing some good running repairs following the loss of their manager and several players.

Uxbridge started with potential season long loan players from the Swans, Jeremy Chong and Rafiq Bettamer in their line up and both featured strong as the U’s started brightly. Chong was very active and put the Swans defense to the test on several occasions, including striking the post, before being replaced early into the second half. Rafiq added some strength to the Uxbridge back four and helped keep the score to 0-0 at half time. Swans photographer Steve McCarthy’s son Paul performing well in goal for the home side with the highlight being a Buchanan attack and the keeper making a strong 1-on-1 save to deny the Swans striker the opening goal. Wadah Ahmidi was in the mix throughout the game showing some real signs of quality and more prominent around the box than we have seen so far. With half time approaching and the Swans having had several chances Ben Martin’s towering header is touched over the bar by McCarthy.  Hal-Time 0-0 …

The second half is a totally different story with the Swans taking full control of the game. The Swans kick off the second half with goalkeeper Ashlee Jones on, along with Josh Webb and Mitchal Gough. Elliot Buchanan scores the first with a cool finish from Ashlee Jones’ huge route one goal kick. 1-0 to the Swans. 2-0 to the Swans as Lewis Driver spins and finds a cool finish following Worsfold’s cross field ball, touched on by Hippolyte 62m.  Another terrific kick from Jones releases Hippolyte. A super turn of heel, but his shot goes wide of the mark. Still 2-0 with 15 mins to go. From here on in it is the Mitchal Gough show where Goughy heads powerfully home off the crossbar and follows up with number 4 from McEwan’s brilliant corner. There appeared to be a new ‘spring in the step’ of the forwards with the introduction of Baptiste and McEwan late on which was good to see.

All round a really good night again for the Swans making it 22 goals for and just 6 against in the run up to the season. New boys Driver, Buchanan, Webb, Haydon and Gilbey showing well and Daly in goal for the first 45 keeping a clean sheet.

Our thanks to Uxbridge FC for the hosting Drax’s squad and we all wish the good luck for the season ahead. On to Marlow FC on Saturday for the final game.
