Unusual events at first Ryman Youth League game of the season. After just 4 mins play the floodlights failed and despite trying to restart them for 15 mins the ref too the players off. Meanwhile, Short Lane is the centre of a dramatic lightning storm. Ashford ‘s technicians are hoping to reset the lights after a 10 min cooling off period do that the game can resume
Lights back on and play has resumed at 8:18. Staines team: Henryk Bielenik, Rudy Arrimar, Michael Dwayne-Holden, George Smith (c), Milos Vukasinovic, Joe Tuck, Miki Kaladjiski, Charlie Godwin, Connor Galligan, Nebay Haile, Rhys Jones; subs Tom Melville, Alphie Richards, Jack Vincent, Micah Bedeau, Elliot Baptiste

After 26 mins, Lewis Haldene puts Ashford ahead. 36 mins: Haldene’s tap in doubles Ashford’s lead.

49 mins Nebay Haile pounces on the rebound from a Jones shot to make it 2-1. Kaladjiski ball down the line an a neat finish by Haile to equalise on 69 min. 76 mins and Rhys Jones fires Staines ahead. It’s been all Staines, but a rare Ashford attack was rewarded with a penalty that was scored by Robbie Joseph on 82 mins, and 2 mins later Ashford score again through Haldene, completing his hat trick.
