Swans finished off their troubled Ryman Premier season with an entertaining 2-2 draw against Canvey Island at Wheatsheaf Park.
Devante Mckain and Jeremy Boakye were the unlikely Staines’ goalscorers as Johnson Hippolyte’s men twice took the lead, only to be pegged back by a double from Martin Tuohy. A thumping effort from centre-back McKain was the highlight of a low-key first half, his right foot shot from the right side of the penalty arrowing into the far corner.
Canvey’s Harrison Chatting fired wide for the visitors in the opening exchanges. Then Staines’ striker Pat Cox was convinced he was fouled by Richard Halle in the box and the consensus was there was contact after the 28-goal man had miscontrolled and tried to rescue the situation, only to end up on the deck.
Referee Benjamin James was having none of it though and waved play on.
After Tre Mitford had shot wide, McKain’s super goal separated the teams at half time and there was very little else to speak of. The second half was a different story as both teams went for broke. Canvey looked lively and had the bit between their teeth as Swans toiled without reward early on.
