Staines Town threw the kitchen sink at defiant Brentwood but were unable to make it three wins on the trot for boss Johnson Hippolyte as they went down 1-0 at home on Saturday.
Ultimately, Swans did not create enough clear cut chances to beat their opponents despite a dominant second-half performance.
Hippolyte introduced new signings Tre Mitford (Burnham Town), a striker to cover for injured Pat Cox , and centre-half Andrew Mills (Woking) – the latter a big contributor at set-pieces and an imposing threat.
Cox’s injury was a blow for Staines for what was billed as a massive game and it certainly was for Brentwood, who are desperately fighting for their Step 3 lives in the bottom four and started the day 10 points adrift of the hosts.
It showed in the first half, Brentwood – who hammered Swans 7-0 last September in the corresponding fixture – dominating and possessing the game’s most influential players in left winger Andy Freeman and centre-forward Tom Richardson.
